"From Rome to Randwick" - Military managed construction works in the Australian Army

SoCLA and Norton Rose Fulbright invite you to attend this exciting presentation by Glen Billington, Commanding Officer and Chief Engineer at 19th Chief Engineer Works with the Australian Army. This presentation will paint a brief history of the use of contractors to support military construction and highlight the construction and legal challenges in managing construction works in the Australian Army. Throughout history, civilian construction contractors have played an important role in military construction efforts and continue to do so to this day. The modern use of construction contractors by the Australian Defence Force is integral to Australian military operations and supporting broader Government policy objectives.   This presentation will highlight contemporary case studies to provide an insight into the construction and legal challenges associated with such projects and will highlight the contract drafting and project management skills required to deal with issues rarely addressed in the Australian domestic construction context. About Glen Billington Glen is an Engineering Officer, with over 20 years’ experience working for the Australian Army. In his current role Glen has worked on a range of Defence projects supporting indigenous communities in remote Australia, regional Pacific neighbours and support to operations in the Middle East. Previous projects include specialist Defence training facilities at Holsworthy NSW and working for clients such as HSBC and Qatar Airlines in London.
