The Stynes Address is an annual high-profile lecture related to the practice of law and the construction industry.

Each year, a speaker will be selected by SoCLA to present a thought-provoking lecture to the construction industry, the kind of speech that will challenge industry views and norms and shift the conversation.

The Inaugural Lecture was presented in 2023 by our patron, Justice Katie Stynes, after whom the address has been named. A gallery of photos from this event is available here.

The 2024 Stynes Address will be presented by Gabrielle Trainor AO on Thursday 28 November at the iconic Australian Museum in Sydney.

Gabrielle Trainor AO is a non-executive company director whose background is as a lawyer, journalist, public sector executive and consultant in public policy and issues management.

Her non-executive roles have been in public and private entities in areas including infrastructure, urban development, financial services, the arts and sport. She has a long history working with First Nations organisations in education and empowerment.

She has recently retired as Interim Chief Commissioner and Chair of Infrastructure Australia.  She chairs the Construction Industry Culture Taskforce, a collaboration between the Australian Constructors Association and the NSW and Victorian governments. Five other jurisdictions have joined the Taskforce since its establishment. Through the Culture Standard it has developed, the aim of the Taskforce is to make a step change in the culture of the industry through the government procurement process.

Her other current appointments include as co-chair of BuildSkills Australia, director of Built Group Pty Ltd, a board member of the Bradfield Development Authority and a member of the board of trustees and Pro Chancellor of Western Sydney University.
