SoCLA - New Technology and Innovation Joint Event - All States (Update on Speakers and Start Times)

Further to our previous announcement to attend an interactive panel discussion on 5 May 2016 by simultaneous video broadcast on the topic “New Technology and Innovation – Welcome to the Future of Construction Law and Practice”, we are very pleased to announce that the Honourable Justice Vickery of the Supreme Court of Victoria (Judge-in-Charge of the Technology, Engineering and Construction List in Victoria and Patron of SoCLA in Australia) will also be speaking at this event.
In view of the number of speakers and our desire to facilitate discussion following the presentations, we will also be bringing forward the start times for this event in all venues by 15 minutes. Please see the updated invitation attached here for revised start times.
For those who have already RSVP’d for this event, there is no need to RSVP again. We will also ensure that all persons who have already RSVP’d for this event are contacted individually to confirm the revised start times.

BUILDING INFORMATION MODELLING _êã WHAT DOES THIS MEAN FOR YOU?
The session will provide an overview of Building Information Modelling (placing particular focus on the adoption of BIM in the Australian construction industry). The session will also explore the legal and practical issues that contracting parties need to consider and manage when proposing to use BIM. The session will provide some solutions in addressing the challenges that BIM gives rise to. More information click here.

How to Build a High Rise
The session will be presented by Dr Chris Haberfield (Principal Geotechnical Engineer, Golder Associates Pty Ltd). Dr Haberfield has been responsible for the provision of advice in relation to review, value engineering, engineering design, analysis, construction and testing of a range of numerous low to high rise commercial and residential towers and various other infrastructure. Some examples include the new Gateway Bridge tender design and North-South Bypass tunnel in Brisbane, the Burnley tunnel, the East Link tunnels and proposed East West tunnel portals in Melbourne.
